You Say You Want A Resolution…

Oh, January 1st, how you tempt me with your big, fresh, blank slates and fresh, exciting promise.

Every year, I make New Year’s resolutions. Every year I break New Year’s resolutions. And, in the immortal words of Paul Thomas Anderson, And so it goes, and so it goes. And the book says…
“We may be through with the past…but the past ain’t through with us.”

And so, here we go again. It’s January 1, 2010. A new year, a new decade, and here I, Sarah MacLean, do hereby resolve to:

1) Write every day. Even when I’d rather watch The West Wing for the 43rd time.

2) Finish three books. “But Sarah!” you say, “You only have two books due in 2010!” Ah hah! See what I did there? I aimed high.

3) Make Pate de canard en croute. Yes. That requires deboning a duck. I know. I’m wicked adventurous.

4) See at least one movie, in a movie theater, a month.

5) Read Great Expectations. All the way through.

6) Use my elliptical for more than a clothes hanger. At least once a week.

7) Take fewer taxis.

8) Do more yoga.

9) Do a better job of keeping in touch with old friends.

10) Learn one new skill. I haven’t decided what this will be. Any ideas? Should I learn a language? Pick up an instrument? Take a photography class? Join an archery club?

Ok…so what are your resolutions?

What a wonderful list! I am going to steal your resolution about taking less taxis…though I'll prob start that once it's a tad warmer out. I'd like to cook more in 2010 so please let me know if there are any great Regency cookbooks that you'd suggest!

Also, I wish you the best on Great Expectations. I loved it and recommend the Norton Critical Edition, which comes with full background essays and authoritative criticism. It takes "nerdy" to a much higher level. Don't pretend like your heart didn't just skip a beat ;)

*authoritative criticism* – i just did a little dance. no joke. thanks for the recommendation!

also…you do not want to eat Regency food. It is foul, disgusting stuff. I vote French!

    Love your list!
#3 good luck! Post a scratch and sniff .jpg please! ;)
    #6 You can do it!!!

    Suggestion for #10

Archery, very cool hobby to get into! I only say this because a few years ago, I asked the hubby for a bow for Christmas, and he got me one, and I shot it a few times and LOVED it! I have felt bad I have not used it more, so this year, I am dusting it off and finding an Archery Range!

    My Resolutions include:
lose my last 60 lbs out of 120 lbs
    shoot my bow more
    de-junk and organize my house
finish writing/illustrating my children's picture book
start writing my YA paranormal novel
write and mail letters to friends and family to keep in touch, I miss opening a hand written letter from a loved one
go to school to become a personal trainer

Good luck with yours! Happy New Year!
