As for favorite passages … my suggestions would probably be too spoilery! You can play it safe and start at the beginning … I love Alex’s thoughts about her mom trying to marry her off to Napoleon!

For future reference, I would start at the bottom of page 11 and read some of that chapter that introduces the three friends, their feelings on coming out and romance and then to Vivi’s gossip about the war. That last bit will introduce the mystery and get the reader hooked.
