A Rogue By Any Other Name is out in the world in all it’s Disney Princess-y glory TOMORROW! I’m so thrilled to have heard from many of you, who have preordered and (in some cases) already hunted down a copy of Penelope and Bourne’s story! My readers are the BEST!
Because y’all are just amazing, I thought I would put together a very special Rules of Scoundrels giveaway for you! As you know by now, Rogue is the first book in the Rules of Scoundrels series, which focuses on four fallen aristocrats and the legendary, exclusive gaming hell that they founded together.
The best part about writing this series is that it gives me absolute license to watch movies and read books about gambling and casinos without anyone judging me. Though, if you knew how many times I’d watched Ocean’s 11 and Casino Royale in the last year, you’d probably judge me anyway.
BUT! I thought it would be fun to jazz up my traditional release-week giveaway (A signed copy of A Rogue By Any Other Name) by adding to it! This go round, I’m adding a batch of the things that inspire me while I write the series…including:
- A casino movie collection including:
Ocean’s 11 (both the 1960 and the Clooney/Pitt version)
Ocean’s 12
Ocean’s 13, and
Casino Royale

- A deck of the incredible Bicycle Guardians cards–which I’m 100% certain would have been the cards of choice of the men of The Fallen Angel had Bicycle made amazing cards in the 1830s. Check out the gorgeous art…those angels are as badass as the owners of my casino.
- The Little Black Book of Casino Gambling, which taught me the rules of all the modern versions of the games played at The Fallen Angel, a terrific beginning and great prep work for when I become a card shark.
- A copy of the most recent Interview magazine, with the handsome, Bourne-inspiring Michael Fassbender on the cover!
- A pair of “Rules of Scoundrels” casino dice–I had these made specifically for the release of A Rogue By Any Other Name and in honor of the new series!
And other goodies like bookmarks and door hangers and the like.

YAY! So…TO WIN…comment below with your favorite casino-related movie, song or book (and why!)…or, if you’re a casino goer, tell me what you like best about gaming! OR…if you can’t do either of those things, tell me why Michael Fassbender is so very dreamy. Or all three! One lucky winner will be chosen on Wednesday!
In other news, today I’m on the way up to Rhode Island for the launch party for A Rogue By Any Other Name at Barrington Books in Barrington, RI. The event starts tomorrow at 7 and involves wine and cheese–two things I like very very much. If you’re in RI or know someone who is, please come or tell them to come! I’m going to be talking about the research for the book, my hero–the hardest man I’ve ever had to spend a year with–and other romancey stuff!
Later this week, I’ll be in Brooklyn, NY on Thursday night with Eloisa James and Maya Rodale for a reading and signing at WORD Brooklyn, and then in Lansing, Michigan with Maya, Sophia Nash, Katherine Ashe, and Caroline Linden for a “Girls Afternoon Out” at Schuler Books!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for being so awesome and reading my blog…and also my books. You’re the best part of this whole gig. Really.
xoxo

Updated to add: The winner of this giveaway is Becky M! Congratulations!

Congrats on your release!!! I’ll answer the Fassy question becuase that’s the easiest one to answer. He’s a dreamboat because he talks about his “inner beast” as if he has no control over himself. Have you read some of the things he has said in magazines before? *thud* He’s a complete stud!
February 27th, 2012 at 12:15 pm
“Inner beast?” Really? I love that. I’ve never heard him say anything like that…but I sure like the sound of it!
February 27th, 2012 at 9:52 am
I think one of my favorite casino movies was What Happens in Vegas with Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher. Well, it is just funny. And I didn’t know who Michael Fassbender was, so I had to go “google” him. Wow… How could I have missed out on his yumminess…
Best of luck on your new book! Can’t wait to get my copy in the mail!!
February 27th, 2012 at 12:15 pm
If you’re a Jane Eyre fan, Michelle, start with that! He’s the yummiest Rochester ever…yummy enough to make me actually consider liking Rochester!
February 27th, 2012 at 9:59 am
Sadly, I’ve never been to a casino or seen any movies “casino related”. However, I do know who Michael Fassbender is, so I am at liberty to say how gorgeous, sexy and handsome he is.
Congratulations on your new release Sarah. I’m really looking forward to this “Scoundrel series”
February 27th, 2012 at 12:16 pm
I will accept your identification of Michael Fassbender as gorgeous, sexy and handsome, Diane. You’re entered! Can’t wait to hear what you think of the new series!
February 27th, 2012 at 10:02 am
The closest casnio type movie, by that I mean gambling movie, Guys and Dolls, The Sting 2
February 27th, 2012 at 12:20 pm
I can’t believe I forgot The Sting! What a great movie that is. Thanks, Alisha!
February 27th, 2012 at 10:13 am
Ok, I was I really don’t have a favorite movie that takes place in cassino. However, before I leave the state of California my friends and I are going to go play bingo at the casino. I know so exciting. hopefully I’ll get lucky.
I had to look up Michael Fassbender. To be honest I’m not good with names like I use to be. However, he is a good looking guy and I seen in like Band of Brothers. My family loved that show. Uniforms are just the best.
February 27th, 2012 at 12:23 pm
I’m not really a casino person either, Melody…which is part of what made the idea for The Rules of Scoundrels series so bizarre! I had to do a lot of research…but I’ve still only been to a few casinos–and usually just to watch other people lose money!
February 27th, 2012 at 10:14 am
I am more of a “Chick Movie” person. I do remember The Sting and it was a real good movie. Books, however, are a different thing. So often our Alpha hero spends time gambling and that is fine with me. ;o) Of course, after he falls in love the gambling miraculous is replaced with time with the heroine.
February 27th, 2012 at 12:24 pm
Hah. Well said, Betty! I think you’ll find that the hero of A Rogue By Any Other Name is just this kind of Alpha!
February 27th, 2012 at 10:19 am
My favorite gambling movie/play would be Guys and Dolls but I’m a theater geek who was once in it! Love the idea of the reformed bad boy. Also loved the movie Mavorik with Jodi Foster….especially the twist at the end!
February 27th, 2012 at 12:25 pm
I’m a Guys & Dolls fan, too, Jennifer…I’ve had that soundtrack stuck in my head all week!
February 27th, 2012 at 10:28 am
Casino Royal
February 27th, 2012 at 10:31 am
Sadly, I have no answer to any of the three things that I should be able to claim. I barely remember which Ocean’s movie I’ve seen but I recall liking it enough to watch it a second time when I was asked to. I’ve been to a casino once when I was 18 for the novelty of a new thing and enjoyed it–played coin slots–but GROSS!!! I’ve never had that black of fingers even doing gardening…I’d go play again if it weren’t for the drive (minimum of 1hr 15mins to the nearest decent one). And the only picture of the man in question that I can be sure I’ve seen is the glimpse of the cover in your blog post here…Though this doesn’t mean I haven’t seen more of him and been crushing without knowing it; I suck at names and faces unless I watch a show for more than a year sadly.
I know, I’m hardly living over here ;) I do have plans to go to a casino this summer though!! I’m looking forward to playing the slots again with a large stack of the wet-wipes to clean my fingers off frequently (and lotion to remedy the drying out done by alcohol wipes)….lol
February 27th, 2012 at 12:30 pm
Well, this is all totally great, Katie! It means you’re more than ready to start reading the Rules of Scoundrels series! These gentlemen will get you up to speed on gaming and handsomeness in no time!
February 27th, 2012 at 10:35 am
What is not to love about Michael Fassbender? Obnoxious talent, delicious ginger good looks, and the whole “inner beast” deal (as mentioned by another commenter). He’s amazing! Ah-mazing, I say.
February 27th, 2012 at 12:34 pm
Ha! Very well put, Nikki! xox
February 27th, 2012 at 10:40 am
Not really casino-centric, but certainly gambling-centric… my husband is a former avid poker player who introduced me to “Rounders.” Poker? Made him happy. Matt Damon? Made ME happy. Win-win choice for movie night.
February 27th, 2012 at 12:37 pm
Hahah! I love Rounders, too, Lozza. Great choice!
February 27th, 2012 at 10:41 am
I can’t wait to read this! I’m going with the Fassbender option because, who wouldn’t?!
His sharky, rouge-ish smile is the best. I can just see fun things happening when it’s aimed towards you!
February 27th, 2012 at 12:38 pm
Rogue-ish is right, Kate! What a dreamboat.
February 27th, 2012 at 10:43 am
This movie package is *so* right up my alley! :). I love the oceans trilogy…George Clooney’s “I’m totally thinking about something naughty right now” smile gets me EVERY time.
So glad that the wait is almost over for Rogue! I’ve been dying for it!
February 27th, 2012 at 12:38 pm
My favorite scene from the Ocean’s movies is in Ocean’s 13, when Brad Pitt & George Clooney get teary watching Oprah. So. Much. Fun.
February 27th, 2012 at 10:47 am
Congrats on your new release. I just love your books, as does my two teenaged daughters. They swear to me that they skip over the “naughty bits”! :D
February 27th, 2012 at 12:39 pm
Haha! What a great mom you are, Molly! I’ll confess, I always skipped over the naughty bits when I was younger, too. I think they were less interesting to me because I didn’t 100% get what I was reading about. So happy the whole family enjoys!
February 27th, 2012 at 10:57 am
My favorite casino movie is “Viva Las Vegas” with Elvis Presley & Ann Margret. I can’t wait to read your book.
February 27th, 2012 at 12:40 pm
Awww…that’s a terrific one, too! Great choice, Gail!
February 27th, 2012 at 11:00 am
Oh dear… it’s really hard to concentrate on figuring out a favorite casino/gambling movie when picturing Michael Fassbender as Rochester or Magneto (it may be X-men, but there’s something very sexy about a man who can control the magnetic field). But… images of Michael Fassbender aside… here goes:
I love the Sting (Paul Newman – the eyes! – and Redford together is simply too good to not mention), but I’ll have to go with Ocean’s 11. Or Ocean’s 13, the scene with Matt Damon with that ridiculous nose trying to drink champagne, that may be the winner.
What would be truly great is if they made another Ocean’s movie with all the previous dreamboats (Clooney, Brad Pitt – preferably with short hair -, Matt Damon, etc.) and added Michael Fassbender as the 14th member. I have no idea why producers have not yet started working on this plan; I would watch this movie twice at the cinema. And if they found a way to miraculously put Daniel Craig in it as well, I’d watch it thrice.
February 27th, 2012 at 12:41 pm
My mind is blown, Fernanda. Michael Fassbender as the Ocean’s 14th? Yes. Yes please.
February 27th, 2012 at 11:26 am
My favorite casino movie is the Clooney/Pitt version of Ocean’s 11. So much fun!
February 27th, 2012 at 11:40 am
1. Any of the recent Ocean’s movies. They are fun, fast paced, entertaining, smart and filled with eye candy galore. What more could you want?
2. Fassbender….sigh….There is something incredibly sexy about this man. He strikes me as smart, funny, sensitive, sexy…and a ginger to boot. As a fellow ginger, I can’t help but love him.
Good luck with the release tomorrow, Sarah! Can’t wait until my copy downloads to my kindle.
February 27th, 2012 at 12:42 pm
100% agreement from me on all of the above, Southlaw! Thanks for stopping by!
February 27th, 2012 at 11:47 am
It Takes a Thief is one of my favorite movies set in a casino. Cary Grant & Grace Kelly, sigh. I can’t wait til Rogue shows up on my kindle tonight!!
February 27th, 2012 at 12:43 pm
To Catch a Thief is one of my favorites, too, Laura! I can watch it over and over! xox
February 27th, 2012 at 11:51 am
First of all, Thank you Sarah for visiting our website today – loved your answers to the Q&A almost as much as I loved A Rogue by Any Other Name! :D
And: Michael Fassbender is incredible and gorgeous and amazing because he can just look at you and well…that’s enough. See the movie Shame for details ;)
February 27th, 2012 at 12:44 pm
THanks for having me, Noa! xox
February 27th, 2012 at 11:51 am
My favorite gambling/casino movie is Maverick, with Oceans 11 (2001) a close second.
February 27th, 2012 at 12:50 pm
Both excellent choices, Rebecca!
February 27th, 2012 at 11:55 am
Congrats on your release, Sarah! I’m so excited! I can’t wait to get the book! I’m going for a bursa injection in my arm and a SIJ injection in my back today. I will stop by B&N before I go and see if the book arrived early. I’m doing a lot of reading these days. I’m facing some rather difficult health issues and I spend most of my time on the couch reading. Your book is what I want NOW. Doctor’s orders. :-)
This is an awesome giveaway! I win all kinds of stuff but not money. My hubby wins the dough. He used to visit casinos all the time. “What Happens in Vegas” (2008) with Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher is my favorite casino-related movie. I enjoy it because it’s funny as heck. I love the scene where they are chasing each other to see who can get to the therapist first and on time.
I was just in Facebook talking to Maya. I wish all of you would come to Austin for a signing. OK, I’m going to call B&N. I just can’t wait for ROGUE!! Have a happy Monday. :-)
February 27th, 2012 at 11:08 pm
Hi Mel! Thanks for the comment! Yikes…I hope you found the book…sounds like you will need it! I hope it helps make you feel better!
I have never seen What Happens in Vegas, but I like Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher a lot…so I’m putting it on my list!
xoxo
February 29th, 2012 at 12:37 pm
I got your book, Sarah! Man, the cover is beautful! I wanted to stop in yesterday but I was in bad shape. I have terrible side effects from the shots and I was still feeling the anesthesia. Having your new book makes me feel much better. I’m reading something now but it has been pushed to the top of my TBR pile. Happy Leap Day! xoxo
February 27th, 2012 at 12:04 pm
What a fantastic giveaway! Thank you! I absolutely love Michael Fassbender! To know that he was your inspiration for the Marquess of Bourne, just melts my butter!!! ;) As for casino movies, I really liked Oceans 11 and The Sting (though it’s not a “casino movie”, I just loved watching Robert Redford and Paul Newman together in that film!) Thank you Sarah for your wonderful books!
February 27th, 2012 at 1:00 pm
Aimee…I think you’ll enjoy Bourne even more now that you have a mental picture! xox
February 27th, 2012 at 12:42 pm
I would have to pick the song Luck Be a Lady Tonight from Guys and Dolls. I have been in a casino. It definitely has a different atmosphere: no clocks and the need for a bit of luck.
February 27th, 2012 at 11:09 pm
The special edition of Ocean’s 13 comes with a documentary on casino design, Kim. You can bet that no clocks are just one of the ways they make sure to keep you in the room!
February 27th, 2012 at 12:49 pm
I really like Ocean’s 11 but thats mainly because i love Brad Pitt.
February 27th, 2012 at 12:51 pm
Ha! I’m with you on the Brad Pitt love, Shiuli! But I will say, I’m a sucker for a great heist movie!
February 27th, 2012 at 12:55 pm
First off, congrats on the release. I love everything you write :)
As far as best casino type book I’d have to go with The Devil in Winter by Kleypas. Who doesn’t love them some Sebastian. Or movie.. I’d have to go with 21. The fact that it was based on real people is amazing.. and I just don’t get counting cards lol
I personally don’t gamble (losing money just seems depressing to me and I’d be the fool cheering if I won $10 or broke even) but I LOVE Vegas. Even got married there.
February 27th, 2012 at 10:47 pm
Devil in Winter, of course, Sharon! A total classic…as was Dreaming of You!
A friend of mine (who also does not gamble and also loves Vegas) always says “Vegas is the best place in the world, but you have to leave before it eats your soul.” Do you think that’s accurate? I’ve only ever been to the airport (Where I lost $20 on slots)!
February 27th, 2012 at 1:00 pm
I’m a HUGE fan of the Ocean series! No matter how many times I watch ‘em ( & I’ve seen ‘em A LOT) I’m always hanging on the edge of my seat! TOTALLY ADDICTING!!
February 27th, 2012 at 11:09 pm
Me too, Leah! Can’t get enough of them!
February 27th, 2012 at 1:02 pm
Delightful! I was wandering the bookstore yesterday, and was surprised to find A Rogue by Any Other Name sitting there! I suppose it’s out here in Canada. ;) Now I just need to finish the final draft of my own novel – so, so close – before I’m allowed to read it (it’s my treat and motivation).
But my favourite thing about casinos is slot machines. . . especially THEMED slot machines. I find if I pick themes I like – like pirates – I win more often. Not particularly scientific, but fun.
February 27th, 2012 at 10:55 pm
Good luck with the home stretch, Jessica! xoxo
February 27th, 2012 at 1:12 pm
Favourite casino movie? 21. Counting cards seems so cool, probably because there’s no way I can do it myself. Lol…. And it’s a true story too!
I LOVE knowing that Michael Fassbender was your inspiration for Bourne. Makes me want to read the book even more now – if that’s possible! Sigh…..Loved him since Inglourious Basterds and love him even more now after Jane Eyre and Shame. Awesome actor and VERY easy on the eyes. :)
February 27th, 2012 at 10:55 pm
Would you like to see the image that started it all? Sure you would. It’s the cap, I think. Oh wait…no it’s not. It’s the gorgeous eyes.
February 27th, 2012 at 1:27 pm
I don’t have a favorite casino movie. The only ones that I have seen, really, are Ocean’s 11 and 12, I think. I love how Brad Pitt’s character is always eating or drinking something in every scene that he is in. Very amusing!
I’ve also never been to a casino, except when a conference for work happened to be held in the conference center of a casino… However, I’m totally interested in learning more about casino-stuff.
February 27th, 2012 at 10:45 pm
Monica…you’re the second person to bring up the eating…and would you believe in all the years I’ve watched them (obsessively) I’ve never noticed that? How funny!
As for learning…I hope Rogue gets you started! xoxo
February 27th, 2012 at 1:31 pm
Not much of a movie watcher! I occasionally go to the casinos, the most fun thing about it is getting away from it all! (I’m not much of a gambler!!) I do like it on the occasions when I do win a little bit – I take the money and run!!
February 27th, 2012 at 10:43 pm
Very. Smart. Lady.
February 27th, 2012 at 2:22 pm
Congrats on the release! I’ve been looking forward to reading this book for a long time.
I love Ocean’s 11. I’ve seen well over 20 times and to me it never gets old. I love how smart it is.
February 27th, 2012 at 10:43 pm
Totally agree, Danielle…Ocean’s is just clever. I’m so sad they won’t be making a 14. But the end of Ocean’s 13 with the Susan B. Anthony in the airport is pretty darn perfect for me. :)
February 27th, 2012 at 3:05 pm
I would have to say that I love the Ocean’s movies. Clooney is my fave. I can’t wait to read this book, the weight has seemed so long, lol. Congrats on the release!!!
February 27th, 2012 at 10:42 pm
Thanks, June! And thanks for waiting!
February 27th, 2012 at 3:08 pm
Happy Release, Sarah! Such a pretty, pretty cover. I thought The Hangover was a hilarious movie. The characters found themselves in funny situations and I like seeing them try to handle things.
February 27th, 2012 at 10:42 pm
Na! You’re the first person to put The Hangover on the list! What a FABULOUS addition to the batch!
February 27th, 2012 at 3:34 pm
Le sigh. If I were a bell, I’d be going ding-dong, Ding-dong-ding for Fassbender, all the time. Hahaha. I heart Guys and Dolls too. Possibly my first Brando film. Love his name, Sky, and Miss Adelaide, can’t forget her!
I’m super duper excited to read your latest!! :D
February 27th, 2012 at 10:40 pm
LOL! Extra points for the Guys and Dolls reference, Diana (and the email address, which only I can see)! Be sure to come back tomorrow for my own thoughts on Marlon! xoxo
February 28th, 2012 at 12:30 am
50 points for Gryffindor? Seriously though, I don’t know how many times I sang that bell song after seeing the movie. Guh. I was pretty much floating in the air too, hopeless, lol. Aaand. It’s awesome how everything related, even my email! It’s become my username for most things because of my nickname. (Bwahaha!) And yes, please. Do tell about Mr Brando. :D
February 27th, 2012 at 3:40 pm
Ocean’s Eleven is definitely my favorite–do you really have to ask why? George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, all on one big screen…no more needs to be said. Though of course the banter between George and Julia Roberts just adds the icing to the cake.
I don’t have a favorite casino book…until tomorrow, of course. ;-)
As for Michael Fassbender, it’s a toss up as to whether he’s so sexy because he was Mr. Rochester or his inherent sexiness is why he was cast as Mr. Rochester–one of those chicken or egg questions that can never be satisfactorily explained. He just IS.
February 27th, 2012 at 10:39 pm
Hahaha. Fassbender’s hotness as chicken-or-egg. The world may never know. I think you’ve hit on it, Becky!
February 27th, 2012 at 4:05 pm
I really like the movie “21″ with Kevin Spacey – it is just AMAZING to me that people can count cards. I dont know why?? I know it’s illegal but it really is a gift – I play cards (Pinochle, canasta, etc) but I dont pay that much attention to the suits, whats been dealt, or whats left..
February 27th, 2012 at 10:35 pm
I like 21, too, Tara. If you ever have a chance, you should read the Ben Mezrich book Bringing Down the House (21 was based on it)…funny thing is…it’s not illegal to count cards. It’s just very very frowned upon by the casinos. And their enormous security teams. :)
I’m like you. I play cards for fun and never pay attention…which DRIVES MY DAD CRAZY!
February 27th, 2012 at 4:14 pm
Congrats on the new release, Sarah. I’ve been waiting for Penelope’s book. I’m not a huge gambler, but you do get rush when you test your luck at the tables. Have fun at the launch party.

February 27th, 2012 at 10:38 pm
Thanks so much, Jane! Can’t wait to hear what you think of the book!
February 27th, 2012 at 4:25 pm
My favorite casino movies are The Sting and Oceans 11
I love it when they trick the bad guys
Love your books, keep them coming
February 27th, 2012 at 10:33 pm
Thanks Janice!
I love heist movies, too! There’s nothing better!
February 27th, 2012 at 4:29 pm
I like Ocean’s 11 because of George Clooney… He’s such a dreamboat…
Congrats on your new book!
February 27th, 2012 at 10:32 pm
Dreamboat is right, May. Dreamcrusieship more like.
February 27th, 2012 at 4:58 pm
Congrats on the new release!
I like the movie “21″ the whole counting cards concept just boggles my mind.
February 27th, 2012 at 10:32 pm
I like 21, too. In fact, I did a lot of 21 watching in preparation for writing the next book in the Scoundrels series…the next hero is a math genius, so it helped to watch those MIT grads!
February 27th, 2012 at 5:15 pm
I’ve already searched out my 2 book stores to see if they had it on the shelf yet, nope, they’re following the rules it seems! Lol. Can’t wait to get my hands on it tomorrow. I can’t decide if I want to to get the ebook or the book though. I’ll probably end up going with the book since I have all your others and I like to keep the collection looking nice on my shelf. :)
Anyways, my favorite casino related thing is a song called Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas by Brandon Flowers. I LOVE the Killers and Brandon is the lead singer for them and he went solo for a year to make the album. Why do I like, probably because it’s Brandon Flowers and he’s hot and he’s a great singer… and I’m fangirl. :)
February 27th, 2012 at 10:31 pm
Oooh…Elizabeth, he *is* hot and a great singer. I love this! Thanks for hunting down Rogue…I confess, I’m happy that stores are following the rules…it’s nice to know that most everyone will get it on the same day!
February 27th, 2012 at 7:50 pm
Congratulations on the book! I like the Ocean’s 11 movie because it’s a fun and enjoyable movie.
February 27th, 2012 at 10:30 pm
Thanks BN! Ocean’s 11 is my favorite, too. :)
February 27th, 2012 at 8:10 pm
Well I’m more of a chick flick girl but I remember seeing The Sting a very very long time ago. When I go into a Casino, I go in thinking I’m going to lose 30.00 but have a great time doing it. I play the nickel and penny machines because they are the most obnoxious and make the most noise. Congratulations on the book I can’t wait to read it.
February 27th, 2012 at 10:29 pm
You’re like me, Lori. I go in with a $20 bill and agree to leave once I’ve spent $20. It’s the only way! And, I confess, I’ve still not gotten up the courage to play anything other than slots!
February 27th, 2012 at 8:14 pm
YAY for Rogue‘s release week! I’m seriously excited to read it. As for movies… hmm, can’t say I’ve watched too many movies featuring casinos, so I’m going to jump on the train and say 21. The concept behind that movie was fabulous. And, you know, kind of intimidating too. But still fabulous. :D
February 27th, 2012 at 10:26 pm
I like 21, too. In fact, I did a lot of 21 watching in preparation for writing the next book in the Scoundrels series!
February 27th, 2012 at 8:29 pm
I love Pitt/Clooney version of Ocean’s 11. Mostly because Pitt is eating the whole time while they’re planning the heist.
Fassbender is so hot because for someone who is so silly in real life, he plays some really intense roles.
February 27th, 2012 at 10:25 pm
Hahah! I never thought about that, Christine…but you’re right! He *is* eating the whole time!
Fabulous! Thanks for the trivia!

I am so excited to read this book. I love movies, so asking me to pick my favorite is hard, but one of my most recent favs that revolved around a casino was Casino Royale with Daniel Craig as Bond. YUM! I also love The Sting, Get Shorty and Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Good stuff.
February 27th, 2012 at 10:23 pm
There is nothing handsomer than Daniel Craig in a tuxedo. Not even George Clooney in a tuxedo. Ok. *Maybe* Clooney. But once Daniel gets into the shower in his shirtsleeves and sucks the water off my fingers… Oh, wait, I mean the fingers of the Bond Girl…
I should stop. ;)

The original Ocean’s 11 is a classic (what went on behind the scenes & in Vegas while they were there shooting could prob make an interesting film itself), not sure if you’d consider them casino based but how about Viva Los Vegas (can you go wrong with the King?) and Rainman (card counting at it’s best).
Congrats on the release, can’t wait to get my copy :D
February 27th, 2012 at 10:22 pm
Donna,
You’re not kidding with the crazy stories the Rat Pack probably had in Vegas while shooting that movie!
And Rainman! That’s a fabulous one! Great choice!
February 27th, 2012 at 9:51 pm
Happy Release day and congrats, Sarah! I’m wondering if anyone remembers this man with an inner beast, as Azazeal on the British series of HEX? Oh my goodness…that’s were my fascination with this gorgeous man started. Hmmm, I feel a HEX marathon coming on.
February 27th, 2012 at 10:20 pm
You know, I’ve never watched HEX? But it’s on my list…and now you’ve reminded me! The second I turn this book in, that’s first up on Netflix!
February 27th, 2012 at 9:53 pm
Reason Michael Fassbender is yummy – Jane Eyre! Have a great release day! I’m in the UK so my copy should be waiting on my kindle right now – I would be reading if I thought I could make myself put it down after starting but I’m not that strong. Great giveaway, I’m not a gambling person but I like to watch hot men do it – gamble, that is.
February 27th, 2012 at 10:20 pm
Totally agree, Bobby…I could set money on fire and have as much fun as I would gambling…but throw in a hot hero and I’m there. :)

I love the Oceans movie – especially Oceans 11. I have a fantastic casino story of my own. When I was 6 months pregnant with my daughter I won a trip to Las Vegas to play in a poker tournament. We (my husband and I) got to play with Tommy Lee, Johnny Rzeznik from GooGoo Dolls, and Dave Navarro. I went out early, but my husband played till the end. I sat beside Dave Navarro and he asked me all sorts of questions about the baby. He was one of the nicest guys. After the game we got to “party” in the Real World suite at the Palms.
February 27th, 2012 at 10:17 pm
Carrie! What an AWESOME story!!! Dave Navarro?? Are you kidding me?!!? He’s always seemed SO. Nice. Do you have pictures? This is SO COOL!! This could easily inspire a scene in one of the Scoundrels novels. I might steal it. :)
February 27th, 2012 at 11:17 pm
I do have pictures! I can’t figure out how to upload it onto here. I will tweet it to you.
February 27th, 2012 at 11:19 pm
I’m @thebookgirl :)
February 27th, 2012 at 10:00 pm
No casino movie can actually capture the wondeful thrill of winning with a bluff or just good cards at poker (even though I personally wouldn’t mind losing to Brad Pitt or George Clooney. Or Michael Fassbender. Just take everything from me).
February 27th, 2012 at 10:15 pm
Oh, Camilla…a woman after my own heart!
February 27th, 2012 at 10:11 pm
I don’t like to gamble because I am a sore loser. In fact I don’t wish to win anything. I just want to show you some love and support for your new book! It is the first book I have ever preordered. I am sooo excited to read it!
February 27th, 2012 at 10:14 pm
Awww…thanks so much, Michelle! Well, I’m entering you into the contest anyway, and if you win, you can decide if you’d like the package or, say, a collection of emailed links of Michael Fassbender to inspire you while you read. He’s pretty dreamy. In fact, I’ll just start now:

February 28th, 2012 at 12:30 am
He was awesome in Xmen: First Class. Played a great Magneto.
February 28th, 2012 at 8:47 pm
Oy (drooling, drooling, drooling…..)
February 27th, 2012 at 10:33 pm
I enjoyed the Ocean’s movies, but as for books, I just finished reading and reviewing A ROGUE BY ANY OTHER NAME (an arc) and it is now my favorite casino book. As I put in my review, this is one of the best books I have read in the past year. Thanks for writing such a beautiful story!
February 27th, 2012 at 10:37 pm
Oh, Dottie, you’re so sweet! Thanks so much for coming over to the blog to let me know that you enjoyed ROGUE! I am so happy to hear it! (And thanks for saying such nice things!) xoxo
February 27th, 2012 at 10:40 pm
LOVE the Oceans movies…how can u not with George Clooney and Brad Pitt starring?! Also loved Casino..Robert DeNiro is a bad man!!!! Personally don’t go to casinos much, cuz its easier just to drive thru gaming town and throw my money out the window, then go home!! Thanks for the AWESOME giveaway!!!
February 27th, 2012 at 10:52 pm
Oooh…Casino is a great choice, Traci!
I like to say that I could set my money on fire for the same amount of fun…but there’s something about vice that makes for great heroes, I have to say!
February 28th, 2012 at 12:34 am
I love Casino too! I knew someone else had to have said it already. I love De Niro’s character as flawed as it was.
February 27th, 2012 at 10:43 pm
Congrats on your new release!!
Luck, be a lady tonight.
Luck, be a lady tonight.
Luck, if you’ve ever been a lady to begin with,
Luck, be a lady tonight.
I don’t particularly like casinos due to all that smoking in NV. I once got into a car wreck because my boyfriend was too affected by the cigarette smoke in the Las Vegas casino we were just in (and the illegal passing that the other car made).
Fassbender sure has pretty eyes! *sigh*
February 27th, 2012 at 10:49 pm
Oh, infiniteh…you’re totally right. The SMOKING!
I was in New Orleans earlier this year and I went into the casino there…there were ASHES on the machines. Ew.
The Fallen Angel, for the record, is very clean. :)
Oh…and you mean…these eyes?
February 27th, 2012 at 10:55 pm
I’ve always enjoyed Casino Royale – the one with Daniel Craig. That guy with that bleeds blood just adds an extras element of gangster to it.
Congrats on your new book. I can’t wait to read it.
February 27th, 2012 at 10:56 pm
Agree, MaryAnne. And wet Daniel Craig doesn’t hurt, does it?
February 27th, 2012 at 11:29 pm
I live in Vegas, and can honestly say I don’t gamble. If friends come into town I’m all about $20 in nickels at the nickel slots keeps me busy for hours.
I loved the show Las Vegas. It was on around the time I moved to Illinois and I was always homesick when I watched it, but it was a great show.
Don’t enter me, but I loved Rogue and wanted to say hi! :)
February 27th, 2012 at 11:36 pm
I can’t even think of a casino movie that I’ve seen–but I love the HBO series Boardwalk Empire, if that counts. Jack Huston (sans the mask) does it for me.
As to a casino-related book, well, I love Sebastian in Lisa Kleypas’ Devil in Winter. That is to say, I love the book…=)
And I can’t wait to read A Rogue By Any Other Name. Your books are always so smart, so fun, and so very, very good!
February 28th, 2012 at 12:19 am
Ok, I haven’t read through all of the responses yet, but my favorite Casino movie is Martin Scorsese’s Casino. I love Robert De Niro and I love a movie that is based on actual events. It has the glamor, greed, power and the mafia in it how can it not be great? And of course, like the movie summary states, the characters all have tragic flaws which make for a lot of drama. Casino is defiantly not a feel good movie, but a great one for the shelf. :D
So excited to get my book tomorrow and meet Bourne! I don’t know how I’m going to sleep tonight. I have been considering ditching class tomorrow though… that’s probably a bad idea :p But it may happen none the less!
February 28th, 2012 at 1:40 am
Yay Sarah! So excited for Rogue! Happy Release Day! I definitely enjoyed all the Oceans movies, also the show Las Vegas was really good. I went to Vegas once and though didn’t really do any real gambling, I loved looking around all the casinos/hotels.
February 28th, 2012 at 2:08 am
Although it wasn’t a “casino” movie by any means, the casino scene in Rain Man has to be one of my faves of all time.
Fave actual casino memory was first time visiting Vegas and going down about 2 a.m to play nickel slots, won 40 bucks and saw two brides in full dress. Vegas defined.
As for Fassbender, what’s not to love? Irish-German, all sexy and doesn’t look too bad shabby in guy-liner either if you can find the episodes of HEX off the BBC. A fallen angel was practically type casting. :)
Thanks for all your wonderful stories Sarah. I’ll be snatching a copy of Rogue as soon as I can get my greedy little hands on it.
February 28th, 2012 at 6:02 am
Sarah, I can’t wait to read Rogue.
My favorite Casino movies were The Sting, Casino and the original Oceans eleven with the Rat Pack. There was also a TV show called Vegas starring Robert Urlich and it premiered in 1978. (dating myself big time LOL. Loved him, he was so handsome.Congrats on the release Sarah and I wish you many sales. :)And I did love Kenny Rogers The Gambler.

I have never stepped foot in a casino before. But when it comes to movies I have a few I really like. Rounders a gambling movie withe Matt Damon and Edward Norton (one of my husbands favorite movies). I was raised with James Bond and married a James Bond fan so Casino Royale was the last movie we saw in theater(thats kinda sad once I think of it).
Congrats on the release and I cannot wait to get it -once my buying freeze is lifted ;)

Best wishes with you release. It sounds like a wonderful read!!
February 28th, 2012 at 10:53 am
I’m not much of a casino movie girl, and the only time I went I got so mad about losing $50 that I vowed to never gamble again! But Mr. Fassbender??? I loved Inglorious Basterds and Xmen first class. With Clooney and Pitt you have that mischievous twinkle in the eye, but with Fassbender, he just always has a touch of sadness in his eyes that makes me want to kiss him happy! Like he’s a bad man with a lost little boy inside! Do you think he’d let me search him??
February 28th, 2012 at 11:43 am
I’ love a chinese series called The Unbeatable, its a mnovie about gambling and skills and almost magic when it comes to gambling. Its almost like gambling – kung-fu style! ~ I loved the Vegas Vampires series in terms of book ~ :)
Love love your book! Hope I win! kim phan

My favourite thing about casinos are how beautiful they are, especially casinos like Wynn, Aria, and Bellagio in Las Vegas! The level of details is amazing and there’s really nothing like casino. My favourite casino films would have to be the last Ocean’s Eleven film and Casino Royale! They really rebooted James Bond. :)
February 28th, 2012 at 5:27 pm
Congratulations on the new book! I havent’ been to a casino in a while but it is interesting to walk around and see all the lights and the people so intent on the machines and games.
February 28th, 2012 at 7:54 pm
So excited about the release!!!! I love your topic for this giveaway!! My favorite casino related book is an old Catherine Hart novel called Temptation. I absolutely love this book because part of it takes place on a riverboat with the heroine being a lady gambler. Maybe it’s because I have always lived by the Mississippi River, but I love this book enough that I’ve read it 10 times!
I fell for Michael Fassbender when I saw a preview for HEX! I watched the show and fell for all that was beautiful and menacing about him!! He’s scrumptious!!! ;o)
February 28th, 2012 at 11:01 pm
Congrats on the release, Sarah. It’s on my Kindle and I’m diving into it tomorrow (yay!)
My favorite casino movie is Ocean’s 11–the remake with Clooney and Pitt is actually much better than the original Sinatra/rat pack movie. My favorite thing about gambling in Vegas is winning (Duh!) But the gaming itself is kind of fun, too. We were in Vegas Super Bowl weekend and came home winners. Fun, fun.
February 29th, 2012 at 2:21 am
Someone else reminded me of ‘Guys and Dolls’ – now that was a great film about gambling (and its perils).
Many congratulations on your latest release!
February 29th, 2012 at 3:59 am
Michael Fassbender was born dreamy! I mean look at that man and tell me you can resist his childish grin and his fun personality. *Sigh* Just thinking about him makes me flustered! ;) Also have you watched him in Shame/Any other movies he’s in? He’s magnificent in every role he’s featured in. Michael Fassbender is the definition of dreamy. :)
BTW, posted this as a comment on your goodreads blog post but I don’t know if you counted them as well so I thought I would post it here as well! :))
February 29th, 2012 at 7:27 am
Ocean’s Eleven. Thank you for providing such enjoyable reading material. Look forward to reading this new book!
February 29th, 2012 at 8:11 am
I’ve been looking forward to this book so much, I ordered two of them!
February 29th, 2012 at 11:46 am
I would watch any casino related movie with Frank Sinatra in it. I’ll be Jane Eyre to Michael Fassbender’s Mr. Rochester any day. I love the new book and it kept me up well into the night reading it! Now please hurry up with the next book, I can’t wait :).
February 29th, 2012 at 3:41 pm
Sarah- thanks so much for ur great books!!! I had preordered Rogue and finished it within 3 hours!! I love, love, love it! My favorite Casino themed movie is a toss up b/w Casino with DiNiro because of ….well, DiNiro! But I also loved the scene in one of the Sex in the City shows when a guy tries to put Miranda down about her weight and the girls come to her defense and totally slam the guy saying her excuse was that she just had a baby… What was his?! Love the way they put him n his place.
Please continue to write absolutely wonderful books! I gotta say my fab so far is a toss up between 9 rules and 11 scandals. Have I said how much I love ur books yet?
Much love, Julie
February 29th, 2012 at 4:58 pm
I love the movie Casino with Sharon Stone and Robert DeNero. I was riveted when I saw it in the theater.
February 29th, 2012 at 5:06 pm
My favorite casino movie has to be 21. Like seriously, who knew that a bunch of nerds would be able to figure out how to cheat blackjack! So much fun. I have no idea if this is actually possible in real life though.
February 29th, 2012 at 10:09 pm
“Don’t blow on someone else’s dice….luck be a lady tonight.”
Definitely may favorite casino related song.
