Anna Campbell’s Ten Matters to Be Mulled by Moonlight When Making Midnight

Today, I turn the blog over to the fabulously talented, incredibly funny, wonderful Anna Campbell, who I always knew I’d like…and then LOVED when I finally met her!  I’m only happy that Anna lives all the way in Australia, because if she lived in New York, I’d never get any work done for hanging out with her!

Welcome, Anna!

Sarah, huge congratulations on the release of your second Avon historical romance, Ten Ways to Be Adored When Landing a Lord! And thank you for having me back for your latest blog party. I had a ball last year – in fact, I still have the tattoos to prove it!

I’m right in the middle of releases. In fact, as in the middle as you can be! My last release in late May was My Reckless Surrender and my next release isn’t until late April 2011. But does that daunt me from coming up with something to blog about? Can Sarah count to ten? And hopefully ELEVEN!

My next release is called Midnight’s Wild Passion (yeah, over the top but definitely grabs the attention!). It’s the closest I’ve ever come to writing a classic Regency romance. Here’s the blurb:

London’s most notorious seducer, Nicholas Challoner lives solely for revenge…

The dashing, licentious Marquess of Ranelaw can never forgive Godfrey Demarest for ruining his sister—now the time has come to repay the villain in the same coin. But one formidably intriguing impediment stands in the way of Nicholas’s vengeance: Miss Antonia Smith, companion to his foe’s unsuspecting daughter.

Having herself been deceived and disgraced by a rogue—banished by her privileged family as a result and forced to live a lie—Antonia vows to protect her charge from the same cruel fate. She recognizes Ranelaw for the shameless blackguard he is, and will devote every ounce of her intelligence and resolve to thwarting him.

Yet Antonia has always had a fatal weakness for rakes…

I thought I’d talk about ten things that inspired this story. Believe me, it will make much more sense next May! Well, at least I HOPE so!

1. Theme song! A lot of writers make a soundtrack for their books. I tend to just have the radio on a classical music station. But for MWP, I fell in love with a song by English band Muse called Undisclosed Desires. It absolutely describes the developing relationship between the hero and the heroine, especially these lyrics:

I want to reconcile the violence in your heart,
I want to recognize your beauty`s not just a mask,
I want to exorcise the demons from your past,
I want to satisfy the undisclosed desires in your heart…

Here’s a link to the video. It’s rather cool, although I’m not convinced by the girl jumping around in scraps from her granny’s knitting basket.

2. The irresistible force and the immovable object romance.

3. How nice it was to dress my characters up and send them to parties – sadly my heroine is in disguise so her dressing up is mostly drab. But she does get a few moments to play Cinderella.

4. Which leads me to mulled wine…uh, point I’m mulling over number four. This is my first Cinderella romance!

5. Actually the REAL fairytale inspiration for this story is a much more obscure fairytale that I remember from my childhood. It’s called Cat Skin – hmm, perhaps they should have called it Midnight’s Wild Cats and it would be better known!

6. How fond I am of heroines with secret identities! I only realized this with my last book, but every single one of my heroines hides her identity for at least part of the book.

7. A big part of mulling over a book (and one where the author TRULY suffers!) is finding a physical inspiration to match the hero she has in her head. This was the closest I came to rakish Nicholas – he’s my first blond hero!

8. And this is the photo for Diana, the very beautiful Alison Doody, who as a bit of trivia starred in a couple of the Barbara Cartland adaptations in the 1970s. Clearly she’s used to being a romance heroine! Actually now I think of it, Marcus Gilbert, my Nicholas model, was in some BCs back then too!

9. Cherry trees. Cherry trees feature strongly in this story. Hey, shoot me, I LOVE cherry trees. Hmm, shootings feature too…

10. And so forth! There is much to mull over when you master Midnight!

Thanks so much, Anna!  I love having you…and I’m so so excited to finally be official pub-sisters with you in May! Eleven and Midnight will be out together! Yay!

So what’s your favorite classic Regency romance? You can give us TEN if you want! I’ll choose one commenter on Friday to receive a signed copy of My Reckless Surrender, the book I was NOT talking about today, LOL!

Melissa Walker’s Ten Ways to Entertain Yourself, Pop Culture Style

There are some very cool things about Melissa Walker, namely: she’s super fun, she writes great books, and she lives around the corner from me. This results in an electric combination that usually makes for a fabulous 6pm writing break in our favorite restaurant on the block…during which we right the wrongs of the world over wine and these little tartine thingies that make me oh, so, happy.

So, of course, when I decided to host a celebration here for the release of Ten Ways to Be Adored When Landing a Lord, I asked Melissa to come over and celebrate with me! And I’m so so happy that she did, because I love Melissa’s doses of Pop Culture awesome (she finds the coolest stuff!)…and now you’re getting one (to get them more regularly, read her newsletter I Heart Daily, or sign up for daily emails from the I Heart Daily team!)

Ten Ways to Entertain Yourself, Pop Culture Style

1. Caitlynn and Tyler on MTV’s Teen Mom. I swoon for this couple of stellar teenagers who have more heart that most adults I know. Watch!

2. http://imremembering.com/. Just go.

3. Kermit puppets do “Under Pressure.”

4. The Twilight hand model carries an apple in her purse to pose for photos. Not kidding.

5. Stop and draw the flowers. It’s worth your time.

6. New favorite twitter follow: @kanyejordan (adds “Liz Lemon” to the front of Kanye West’s tweets and makes it sound Tracy Jordan-esque). Ha!

7. The Goonies 25th Anniversary DVD. “Goonies never say die!”

8. Fashion + a daily cast of Nerd Boyfriends = Love.

9. Ann M. Martin writes a prequel to The Babysitter’s Club series—genius!

10. Back to the Future 25th Anniversary trilogy DVD set. (Was 1985 a good year for movies or what?!)

Thanks for coming over to hang out, Melissa!

Melissa is the author of the Violet books (Violet on the Runway, Violet in Private and Violet By Design) and Lovestruck Summer, and her next book (which I have read and is AMAZING), Small Town Sinners, is out in the Summer!

I’ve got a copy of Lovestruck Summer here for one lucky winner! Recommend one thing from our pop-culture annals to Melissa and me, and we’ll choose a winner on Wednesday to win the book! **Don’t forget to share your email address with us so we can reach you if you win!

Debra Mullins’s Ten Decades of Hollywood Heroes!

I’m so happy to host the wonderful Debra Mullins today on the blog as part of the celebration of Ten Ways to Be Adored When Landing a Lord! The first book in Debra’s Brides of Nevarton Chase series, Tempting a Proper Lady, is out now, and the next, Too Wicked to Love, is out in June!

I’m particularly excited because she is going to talk about one of my favorite topics–Hollywood Hotties…and because obviously Debra and I are kindred spirits…as her list includes several of my go-to dreamboats!

This is such a fun post…I’m so happy to share it with you!

Ten Decades of Hollywood Heroes
By Debra Mullins

I was always compelled to write, but what I chose to write—romance novels—was directly influenced by the movies I watched growing up. The hero always got to me, how he managed to do his duty while still falling head over heels for the heroine. So here is my list of Hollywood heroes over the past ten decades. Now, this isn’t the list, just my list, so feel free to add your own suggestions as we go!

Since we’re starting off in the twenties, I think this quote from Rudolph Valentino sums up how women feel not only about romantic leads on the silver screen, but also about heroes in romance novels:

“Women are not in love with me but with the picture of me on the screen. I am merely the canvas on which women paint their dreams.” –Rudolph Valentino

1920-1930Douglas Fairbanks and Rudolph Valentino. Dashing Douglas Fairbanks did all my favorite films: Robin Hood, The Thief of Baghdad and The Mark of Zorro. To this day I love heroes with secret identities. Rudolph Valentino, dubbed the original Latin Lover, made a splash in movies like The Sheik and Son of the Sheik. His death at age 31 spurred one of the first female mass hysterias for a pop icon.

1930-1940 –Errol Flynn. Errol Flynn stole my heart with swashbuckling romance in movies like The Adventures of Robin Hood, The Adventures of Don Juan and Captain Blood.

1940-1950 – Tyrone Power. Tyrone Power continued the swashbuckling tradition in movies like The Mark of Zorro and The Black Swan. (You can blame him and Errol Flynn for my first book, Once A Mistress.)

1950-1960 – John Wayne. My favorite movie of all time is The Quiet Man with John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara, filmed in Ireland. What a wonderful romance against a stunning backdrop!

1960-1970 – Sir Sean Connery. From 007 to Highlander to The Rock to Entrapment, Sean has got “it”—that elusive charisma that keeps women coming back for more. He could film a denture commercial with that accent and have women running to the store to buy some.

1970-1980 –Frank Langella and Christopher Reeve. Another actor who did a terrific job as the lead role in the 1974 remake of The Mark of Zorro is Frank Langella, just before he kicked off the vampire craze a couple of decades early with his sensuous performance in 1979’s Dracula. And Christopher Reeve as Superman and then later in Somewhere In Time …wow, those eyes.

1980-1990 – Harrison Ford, Cary Elwes and Patrick Swayze. Harrison Ford stole my heart in 1977 as Han Solo, but the bulk of his work falls into the 1980’s as he switched off between Han Solo and Indiana Jones. Cary Elwes charmed as Wesley in The Princess Bride. I loved the way he loved Buttercup and how he would allow nothing, not even death, keep them apart. And Patrick Swayze? Again, I love an alpha male who can dance. Dirty Dancing, Road House and Ghost: Patrick had it all.

1990-2000 – Antonio Banderas and Johnny Depp. I love the way Antonio Banderas moves in Desperado, and I’m a sucker for any man who can pull off Zorro with flair. And that accent—delicious. (I’m such a sucker for Latin men.) And I’ve been a fan of Johnny Depp since he first appeared in the TV series 21 Jump Street. Loved him in the camp classic Cry-Baby and of course, as the Irish rogue Roux in Chocolat. He also makes a heck of a pirate!

2000-2010 – Hugh Jackman and Jim Caviezel. Hugh Jackman won me over as Wolverine in the X-Men movies, and his poster on my wall inspired a few of my darker heroes. (I also had the opportunity to see him on Broadway in The Boy From Oz. Again—an alpha male who can dance and sing!) Jim Caviezel stole my breath as Edmond Dantes in the remake of The Count of Monte Cristo, also inspiring for an hero or two.

2010 forward – Robert Downey, Jr. Robert Downey, Jr. makes be believe in heroes, not only because of his terrific work in Ironman and Ironman 2 but also because of his triumphs in his personal battles. Loved him in Sherlock Holmes as well, and I can’t wait for the sequel!

That’s my list. Tell me, who’s on yours?

I love this list!  I’m also a sucker for Tyrone Power, Sean Connery, Antonio Banderas and RDJ…but I was sad to see that my Marlon Brando didn’t make the list, Debra! What about you, readers?

Debra has generously offered a signed copy of her most recent release, Tempting A Proper Lady! Tell us who is on your list of Hollywood Heroes (from any decade) for a chance to win on Monday! **Don’t forget to share your email address with us so we can reach you if you win!

Lorraine Heath’s Ten Ways To Woo Your Husband

When I started writing for Avon, I would call my sister, who is largely responsible for my love of romance novels, and squee whenever I met one of our favorite writers.

When I met Lorraine Heath, there was much squeeing.  Much. Much. Squeeing.  She’s fabulous. Her books are fabulous (In Bed With The Devil and Between the Devil and Desire have permanent places on my keeper shelf and my bedside table). And I still pinch myself every time I see my name near hers on Avon lists or, say the RT Historical Romance of the Year List!

This month, I’m so excited, because Avon is releasing not one but two Lorraine Heath novels!  The first, Passions of a Wicked Earl is out now, and the next, Pleasures of a Notorious Gentleman is out at the end of the month and I. Can’t. Wait!

Passions of a Wicked Earl is the story of a young bride who makes a mistake, and ultimately has to do everything she can to win back her husband.

Lorraine has given us a little taste of the awesome inside this book with the following Ten Ways to Woo Your Husband!

1. Don’t remain at the country estate where he has exiled you.

2. When having your portrait done with him, wear something provocative so he can’t take his eyes off you.

3. Constantly rearrange the furniture in the middle of the night, when the servants are already abed, so he is forced to assist you if wishes to find any peace so he can sleep.

4. At the ball, dance with a handsome duke to make your husband jealous. (Make sure, however, that the duke is your ally and wants to taunt his brother into claiming you as his wife.)

5. Hint that you have a ticklish spot, then dash away with a laugh that dares him to try to find it.

6. Toss whiskey on him. When he returns the insult, invite him to sip the whiskey from your skin.

7. Brazenly ask him to kiss you.

8. Don’t be afraid to let him know that you yearn for his touch.

9. Get him a dog.

10. Fill his boring, staid life with laughter and love.

*sigh*

I love. These rules.

I have one copy of Passions of a Wicked Earl to give away! Tell us the way you wooed your love or, if you haven’t wooed a love yet, tell us the trick you’ve got up your sleeve to woo him when he shows up! We’ll choose a winner on Friday… **Don’t forget to share your email address with us so we can reach you if you win!

Ten Things I’m Thinking About Today…

I don’t usually do such random posts…but there are a bunch of things that are in my head today…so bear with me!

1) Election Day. Anyone who has been reading the blog for any length of time knows I’m a big nerd about Election Day.  I love voting.  It gives me a fabulous, warm, fuzzy feeling.  Don’t believe me? Go try it yourself…and while you’re pulling that lever, ticking that box, punching that chad, don’t forget that there are millions around the globe who don’t have such a privilege. (There are already 6 million people on Facebook who voted today! Amazing!)

2) Halloween. I know it’s late.  But it’s never too late to coo over this photo of a baby dressed as a chicken. Seriously. Cuteness overload.

3) It Gets Better. I’ve been talking about this on Facebook and Twitter since Dan Savage started his YouTube campaign against bullying.  The videos are super duper powerful and worth spending some time watching. My favorite so far is this one, featuring the LA Gay Men’s Chorus and their friends and family. I defy you not to tear up.

4) A week since release date!  I’m so so happy to say that Ten Ways has officially been in the world for a full seven days…thanks to all of you who have purchased the book…I hope it’s treating you well! Smart Bitches, Trashy Books is talking about the dialogue in the book today, and if you head over to B&N.com, you can learn all about the fabulous Ricky Mujica (cover artist) and how the cover came to be thanks to Melissa Walker!

5) Prosciutto. My husband turned 35 this week and as a gift, he received a literal haunch of prosciutto from my father (he’s Italian. There is no better gift than cured meat). There are only two of us in this house and, like, four pounds of prosciutto. So if you have a recipe that involves prosciutto, lay it on me in comments. I could use it.

6) The fabulous Anna Campbell is hosting me on the amazing Romance Bandits blog…I’m kind of blown away by all the comments…and I’m convinced that it has something to do with the naked photo of Anthony Bourdain. It sure can’t be because of me! Go on over to see the picture and to get a chance to win signed books from me!

7) Nine Rules!  So, with all the excitement around the release of Ten Ways, I can forget that I wrote another little book earlier in the year.  But I just heard that RT Book Reviews has nominated Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake for Historical Romance of the Year! I’m floored, because I’m nominated alongside (eep!) Lisa Kleypas, Liz Carlyle, Connie Brockway, Lorraine Heath & (OH MY GOD) Johanna Lindsey.  I can’t even believe it.  Let’s just move on before my head explodes.

8) Sees Candy. I grew up on the East Coast. We don’t have Sees like you lucky ducks on the West Coast. Happily, however, I married into a family from Fresno, CA, and my mother in law believes in candy on Halloween even for children in their 30s.  The box came today. I’ve already opened it and gorged on raspberry cremes. Yum.

9) The Park Slope Teen Writers Workshop. Last week, I started facilitating the Park Slope Barnes & Noble Teen Writers Workshop. I took over from the amazing Ned Vizzini, who is now a big-time Californication-style author who lives in LA and has movies made from his books. The students in the group are super talented…their work is showcased on the Give Us Money blog…and there’s always room for more!  If you know a teen in NYC, please have them connect with me, or just attend the next workshop!

10) Apartment hunting.  We need a bigger one, as my books have now officially taken over our two-bedroom apartment. Ask me what the least fun thing in the world is? Apartment hunting.  Blergh.

Anyway…that’s what’s in my head right now…thank you all, again, for all your support of Ten Ways…and of the other authors who are guest blogging all month! xoxo

Veronica Wolff’s Ten Ways to Level a Highland Devil

My favorite thing about writing romance is the incredible support that a newbie writer like me gets from the other members of the romance community. Take this year’s RWA National Conference in Orlando, for example.  I was *terrified.* Surrounded by authors I love, all of whom were immensely talented and seemed to know *everyone!*

Thank goodness for the fabulous Anne Mallory, who took pity on me and invited me to dinner with the amazing ladies of the San Francisco chapter of RWA…where I met the equally fabulous Veronica Wolff.  Veronica writes Highland Romances (and we all know how much I love me some kilted hotties) and on top of that, she is fabulously funny and interesting and yes…I have a total girl crush on her.

So obviously, when I decided to celebrate the release of Ten Ways to Be Adored When Landing a Lord, I invited Veronica to come over and blog on her most recent release, Devil’s Highlander!

Ten Ways to Level a Highland Devil
If wanting to knock a braw Highland warrior off his feet, a lass would do well to heed the following:

1. It pays to eavesdrop. You never know what might happen.
2. Act saucy at every turn.
3. If he calls you willful, ignore him—trust me, this will secretly drive him wild.
4. Disguise yourself in men’s clothing (trew-clad legs are exceeding naughty).
5. He will protest vociferously, but still you must secure his services as a lady’s maid, just once.
6. Beware fermented drinks of the West Indies.
7. Your Highlander isn’t very keen on the sight of you talking with other men. You would do well to disregard this.
8. Be a brave lass and see what you can do about getting him up off that deuced pallet already.
9. Why yes, that is a sword in his kilt.
10. Don’t ever give up. He’s really quite smitten, you know.

For the record, #9 is my favorite.  Thanks so much for coming over to play, Veronica!

Contest!

One of the things I like best about Veronica’s list is that these rules easily translate into wooing the infuriating, wonderful Alpha of your choice–kilt or no. Tell me the best thing about romances with alpha heroes in comments! One commenter will win a copy of Veronica’s book on Friday! **Don’t forget to share your email address with us so we can reach you if you win!

Tiffany Clare’s Ten Ways to Surrender!

When I hear the first whispers about Tiffany Clare‘s The Surrender of a Lady, I got really excited. See, I spent much of the early years of my romance novel obsessions reading Harem Romances.  The Skye O’Malley books, Johanna Lindsey’s Silver Angel, …when Loretta Chase tackled the Harem theme with her Don’t Tempt Me last year, I was in heaven.

And then Tiffany burst onto the scene with a debut harem romance that , and all was right with the world.  I don’t know if it’s because of the setting (far from the ton and its well-known rules) or the mysterious, intriguing, danger of the Harem world, but I was ready for a new writer who would take a big risk and give me a harem romance that I could really sink my teeth into. And omg does Tiffany deliver!

I’m so happy to host Tiffany as part of the release month celebration of Ten Ways to Be Adored When Landing a Lord!Let’s face it, everyone has to surrender at one point or another…and sometimes the surrender is the fun part! Have trouble with this idea? Tiffany is here to help!

Tiffany Clare’s Ten Ways to Surrender

1. Surrender to the Brazilian Wax (or Rusma scraping), you will love it after the initial sting,  I totally promise;-) And if you don’t, your man totally will :)

2. Surrender to new customs to live life more freely and differently. You might as well try something new if you are going to enjoy life to the fullest.

3. Surrender to the Harem life. Forget corsets and waltzes and London ballrooms. Instead imagine sexy, sheer harem garb with jewelery galore and bangles and bells for you ankles and wrists.

4. Surrender to your master/owner. A sex slave has but one thing to barter with, and politics can be played with those assets.

5. Surrender to your desires.

6. There is a time when you have to surrender to the man you love.

7. Surrender when the battle is lost, kismet has a way of making things work in the end.

8. I might caution that there are some things you should not surrender to. Do not surrender your child. Ever.

9. Do not surrender when drugged and abducted – refer back to (8)

10. When you find love, hold on to it with all your might and tell your master/owner to go to hell. You have to be your own woman at some point.

Thanks so much for coming over to play, Tiffany, and congrats on the fabulous debut!

Contest!

I’ve confessed my weakness for Harem Romances…what’s your pop culture weakness? Reality TV? Shoot-em-up movies? Secret Baby romances? (Or maybe these are all my weaknesses, too?) Confess in comments, and one commenter will win a copy of Tiffany’s book! Winner will be chosen on Monday! **Don’t forget to share your email address with us so we can reach you if you win!

Rachael Herron’s Ten Things to Do When Alone in a New City

Rachael Herron is the best.

We started our time at Avon Books together, she writing her fabulous Cypress Hollow contemporaries that mix knitting and hot heroes and me writing my historicals, and I’m pretty sure we were destined to be friends. Her first book, How To Knit A Love Song, was released to critical praise and my own excitement…and I’m so so happy to host her on the blog as part of my celebration of Ten Ways to Be Adored When Landing a Lord!

Rachael was just here in New York City for a bit, meeting and exploring and, unfortunately, I had a terrible cold and couldn’t make our scheduled lunch, which made me very very sad…until she sent me the following list for the blog.  Now I’m not so sad, because I’m imagining that she did at least one or two of these things during the time when we were supposed to meet up!

Without further ado…

Ten Things to Do When Alone in a New City

1. Wander. Get lost. Do NOT buy a map. Remember that we are finally living in the future and you have a map in your pocket if you really need one, or–gasp–you could ask directions of someone (but you won’t — wherever you end up is where you’re meant to be).

2. Drink coffee. Even if you normally never drink caffeine (like me), there is something wonderful about an espresso sipped at a table as you watch the world go by.

3. When you pass a local bookstore, pop in and go through the Local section. You’ll find books you never would have dreamed of, and they’ll be good.

4. Flirt inappropriately with someone you’ll never see again, and then disappear, never even having given him your name.

5. Drink alcohol. Even if you normally never drink spirits (unlike me), unless there is a good reason not to (recovery is a good reason), there is something wonderful about 18-year Scotch imbibed while laughing in a town you don’t know.

6. Don’t pack an umbrella — they’re three dollars and readily available.

7. Walk in the rain.

8. Ask the names of the people you meet, and use them, even if you only use them to say goodbye.

9. Buy new shoes that will remind you of the city you’re in every time you put them on. Make them more frivolous than you normally wear: heels if you wear flats, boots instead of pumps.

10. Buy a map as you leave town, and write all over it, marking the places you’ve been and what you did there. Then, mark the places you want to go the next time you come back.

I love these tips! I think they should be printed on little cards and handed out at visitors’ centers across the globe.  Seriously.  Especially number eight.  You never know who you might meet.

Contest!

Tell Rachael and me one tip you have for traveling in a new city…and we’ll choose one commenter on Monday evening to win a copy of How to Knit a Love Song! **Don’t forget to share your email address with us so we can reach you if you win!

Stay tuned all this and next month for fabulous prizes and awesome Ten Ways posts from an incredible range of authors! And don’t forget to read more Authors Rule(s)! (And don’t forget to read Rachael’s Nine Rules for Knitting in the Dark for more fun!)

Ten Ways in Seven Days – Celebratory Giveaways!

Seven days until the release of Ten Ways!

I’m knee deep in revisions on Juliana’s book, but had just enough time to send postcards out to everyone on my mailing list…and to write a handful of blog posts which will be up around the Web in the next few weeks…so stay tuned for those!

Baxter can barely contain his excitement about next Tuesday. As you can see, he’s resting up for a walk to the bookstore.

Anyway…in honor of the impending release of Ten Ways to Be Adored When Landing a Lord, which just received a starred review from Library Journal (they called it “radiant!”), I’m doing a giveaway!  Winner will received signed copies of Nine Rules… and Ten Ways… and an I Break the Rules totebag!

As you can probably guess, I’m in a list mood these days (numbered titles tend to have this effect on me)…so how about this: In comments, list your ten favorite books (see how I’m also using this as a way to build my To Be Read pile?).  I’ll choose one winner on Tuesday of next week!

**Don’t forget to leave your email address, so I can reach you if you win!

Karen Ranney’s Ten Ways to Tell You’re in Scotland!

It’s unofficial Scotland week here at MacLeanSpace… completely unplanned, I scheduled Donna Fletcher and the fabulous Karen Ranney within days of each other…which is a gift to you, and all others who love their men brawny and kilted!

It seems appropriate, though, as the weather is just turning cool here in New York, and a warm man–*a-hem*–by which I mean, of course, a warm plaid would be more than welcome. And Karen’s most recent book, A Highland Duchess is exactly the kind of romance that keeps you warm on an autumn night!

I’m so thrilled to have Karen on the blog to celebrate the release of Ten Ways to Be Adored When Landing a Lord…I’ve been reading her books since she started writing–there’s just something about that rollicking Scottish Romance that makes me all warm and fuzzy…and Karen must feel the same way (after all, her blog is called Warm Fuzzies)!

Ten Ways to Tell You’re in Scotland

1. You see lot and lots of tartan (especially in shops that cater to tourists).
2. You hear bagpipes and drums a lot.
3. People want you to try haggis.
4. You’re in Glasgow, but you can’t understand a word anyone says.
5. You have an incredible urge to go salmon fishing or play golf.
6. You look for a kilted man on every corner and when – thank your lucky stars! – you see one, you just stop and stare in appreciation.
7. You want to weep whenever you see a castle.
8. You have the curious urge to start talking brogue because you’re beginning to feel a little Scottish yourself.
9. You find yourself smiling often.
10. You really don’t want to leave – or you count the days until you can return.

Contest time!

One lucky commenter will win a copy of Karen’s A Highland Duchess! This post has put me in the mood for traveling and romance…It’s been ten years since I was in Scotland last, and I must say “When are we going to Scotland?” to my husband at least once a week!

So…how about this? In comments, tell us the place in the world you’d love to go (or return to) with your sweetheart…and we’ll choose one winner on Friday evening! **Don’t forget to share your email address with us so we can reach you if you win!

Stay tuned all this and next month for fabulous prizes and awesome Ten Ways posts from an incredible range of authors! And don’t forget to read more Authors Rule(s)!
