Tawny Weber’s Ten Most Romantic Songs for Valentines

I’m thrilled to host the fabulous Tawny Weber today on the blog…Tawny’s tenth book, Breaking the Rules, is out this month, and who better to talk about Valentine’s Day than a ten-time romance author?

Welcome Tawny!

As we approach the most romantic holiday of the year, I start imagining the makings of a romantic evening.  There’s champagne, of course.  And chocolate (everything requires chocolate!).  And romantic music.  Slow dancing music.  Softly playing in the background while staring into the eyes of your sweetheart over a candlelight dinner music.  Sharing champagne and chocolate in front of a blazing fire music.

So I thought I’d share my favorite romantic music with you – and see what your list looks like, too!

Tawny’s Ten Most Romantic Songs for celebrating Valentines Day

How about you?  What’s your favorite romantic song?  Keeper of the Stars was my wedding song, so it has an extra special place in my heart.  Do you have a special song that, just hearing the notes, makes you feel romantic?

I love this idea…the ten most romantic songs for Valentine’s day! Marry Me definitely makes my list as well Tawny! In fact, Tawny’s inspired me to think up my own Top 10 list…stay tuned later in the month for that!

To celebrate the release of Breaking the Rules, Tawny is giving away some Valentine’s treats to one commenter today!  She’s hand-crafted a heart-shaped tin filled with candy, and she’s offering a signed copy of a book from her backlist (winner’s choice)!

Comment below with your favorite romantic song, and we’ll choose one lucky winner on Tuesday! **Remember to leave your email address so we can reach you!

And… don’t forget to visit Tawny’s website to join her invitation-only Valentine’s Day Party!  Including: a downloadable short story; ten Tips for a Hot Valentine’s Night; and a contest for a Valentine’s Basket! Head over to the Breaking the Rules Valentines Party on Tawny’s site and RSVP!

I'm just commenting to comment, not to enter. :) But here is my list of my unconventional love songs.

My "In General" song: All I Want Is You – U2

The song that I loved as a teenager: Chasing Cars – Snow Patrol

My Disney love song: Kiss the Girl – The Little Mermaid

And my personal one that means something to me and my boyfriend: Swans – The Format

When I was working on my first book, I stumbled upon "So Close" from the movie Enchanted. It was THE perfect song for my hero and heroine, and I still think of it as a wonderfully romantic song. Sadly, though, I can't listen to it now that I'm divorced because it IS so romantic. It just makes me cry. But maybe one day…

Great list of songs Tawny. A few are on my list as well. I also like:

    I'll Be-Edwin McCain
    Destiny-Zero 7
    Chasing Cars-Snow Patrol
    In Your Eyes-Peter Gabriel
    Still In Love-New Edition
    All I Want Is You-Miguel
    I Can't Help Falling In Love-Elvis Presley
    Never Think-Rob Pattinson

  • Tawny

    Hi Liz :-)

Great list. I had to look up Swans – The Format and got to watch the video. What a great song.

  • Tawny

Aw Marilyn, isn't that the power of a fabulous song? That it brings such intense emotions to the surface.

I love finding that just right song for a story, too. I do playlists for each book, focusing more on beat and message, but usually there is one song that really pushes the writing better than others – I can so see how this would push a romantic story!

off to find the youtube vid of So Close and watch :-)

  • Tawny

    Hi Danielle :-)

Wow!! Great list… I need to add some of these to my writing playlist!

One I've been listening to a lot lately, that borders romantic/not quite romantic, is Fergie's Big Girl's Don't Cry.

  • Robin Covington

Great post Tawny! I creat a playlist for all of my WIP's and i ahd a song inspire an entire scene, which led to the chapter, which led to the whole book!

Our wedding song was Bonnie Raitt's "Let's Give Them Something to Talk About"

My fave love songs right now are:

"The Beauty of Who You Are" by Marc Broussard.

    "Nothing Fancy" by Dave Barnes

    "All for You" Keith Uurban

"Radio Love" by Sarah Buxton (it's a fast song but it makes me smle and giggle just like I do with my honey and that is love to me)

  • Tawny

    Hi Robin :-)

I absolutely love your wedding song! What a great theme, and a way to kick off your marriage :-)

Fab list, I currently have All for You on my playlist for the book I'm writing :-)

Like you, I do a different playlist for every book – it not only gets me into the writing as soon as I hear the tunes, but when I have to go back months later to do edits, I slip right back into the story!

My husand and I celebrate our anniversay on the 2/7 so we usually combine our anniversary and Valentine's Day. This year will be our 41 anniversary and we still can't remember why our wedding ended up on the 7th and not the 14th. We think it was because my husband was in the Navy and his chief decided which day he could have off!

Our favorite song is The Impossible Dream from Don Quoixte. I think one reason was we were in the middle of the Vietnam War and just happy we were together and he ha just found out he wouldn't have sea duty again before his enlistment was up.

Strange how so much changes but years later stays the same. Today we still treasure all the small moments together.

Tawny! Yah gotta good list. I've always loved Unchained Melody.

I can't wait to read this one. You do realize I've read everyone of your books? I need a book to leave me feeling good I can always rely on one of yours!

    Here's a few of mine:

    Tangled Up In You Staind
Everytime We Touch Cascada (I also love the club mix of this)
    Lady In Red Chris DeBurgh
Don't Let Go Bryan Adams and Sarah Mclachlan

Hey there Tawny and Sarah *waving madly*

What a great topic! I have to say one of the most romantic songs I know is HERE AND NOW by Luther Vandross. I walked down the aisle at our wedding to that song and it played for our first dance.

But as you know, Tawny, I tend to like things with a little sizzle. So on that note, I love the song FEVER by Michael Buble. Such a sexy song and Michael's voice is perfect for it.

Just saw the comments on a book's playlist, so I have to tell this. When I read WHEN HE WAS WICKED by Juila Quinn I thought FEVER would be the perfect song for it. It definitely has the right tone (sizzle) for such a sexy book.

  • Jane

    Hi Tawny,
Congrats on the release. A few people mentioned Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol, but I like Just Say Yes by them. I also like Modern English's Melt With You, Tony Bennett's The Way You Look tonight and Cherish by Madonna.

  • Suzanne Ferrell

"Kiss From A Rose" by Seal

    "Unchained Melody"

    "Sara" by Fleetwood Mac

I, too, like the flirtatiousness of "Kiss the Girl" from "The Little Mermaid". So sweet and cute!

I've been singing "The Old Songs" by Barry Manilow recently (to the pinnipeds at the beach). They like it well enough to ignore me when I walk by. I used to sing this song to my mother (it was a fave of hers) when I was a kid.

I like most kinds of music so I like a lot of different styles. Some of my favorites are:

    Wonderful Tonight – Eric Clapton
I Can't Make You Love Me – Bonnie Raitt
Always On My Mind – Willie Nelson

Jeanne, a happy belated anniversary to you and your husband!! Wow – 41 years?! That's fabulous!!!

And LOL on the wedding on the 7th because of his chief. Gotta take those days when we can get them, right? And this way, you get to extend the romance for a whole week, bookending on one side with your anniversary and the other with Valentines.

The Impossible Dream – what a lovely song!!

  • Tawny

Sia!!! Hi :-D And thank you so much for reading all ten *g* You're the bestest!

What a fab list of songs. I hadn't heard the Bryan Adams/Sarah Mclachlan one yet, and now own it. WONDERFUL.

  • Tawny

Buffie!!! Hey you *waving wildly right back*

I do like that you like sizzle. You know that, right? ;-) And talk about sizzling, that is one hot song! Love it!

Isn't it cool, too, when you're reading a book and hear the perfect song for it? Especially one that's super sexy.

  • Tawny

    Thank you, Jane :-)

I'm so loving all these song ideas! I've now used up the iTunes giftcard Santa brought me by getting a bunch of these great suggestions.

Oooh, Modern English. Love them, love that song. Cherish is lovely and The Way You Look Tonight is just heart melting, isn't it? Awesome list!

  • Tawny

GREAT songs, Xia – really fabulous choices :-)

  • Tawny

    Hey Suz :-D

LOLOLOL on how romantic Jon and Richie are. I do love Livin' On a Prayer. I'm a die-hard Bon Jovi freak, so will totally agree :-D

    Sara… oh sigh.

  • Tawny

Hey Johanna :-D There are some great songs here today, aren't there. But oh man, I forgot about yours. I love that song. Its one of my husbands favorites, and mine as well. I'll bet it was a perfect wedding song!

  • Tawny

    Hi Natasha :-)

Isn't it great to find a love song that touches the emotions like that?!

And sure, I'm open to the contest being open worldwide :-D

  • Tawny

Sheree, isn't that a fun song?! I think of it as a kids' first introduction to the wonder of romantic music :-D

How fun that you're singing to the pinnipeds – and that they love it!!!

  • Tawny

Oooh, Clapton. Linda, he's so fabulous! I love that song :-)

I forgot about Always On My Mind -that is a sweet one, isn't it.

    GREAT list :-)

  • Kati

    Hi Tawny! *waves*
Can I just say that Keeper of the Stars is my favorite Tracy Byrd song? It's gotten over 400 plays if the counter on my iTunes is correct. :)
Here's a few more my favorite romantic songs. Couldn't pick just one ^_^
    Me and You
Must be Doing Something Right (this should be every romantic hero's anthem)
Truly Madly Deeply (oh Savage Garden,oh middle school dances)
    Forever and Ever,Amen
Hopelessly Devoted to You (this should be every heroines anthem-seriously)

And who could forget Valentine by Martina McBride?

*runs off to make a romantic song mix*

    aggiegirl11187[at]yahoo[dot]com

  • Tawny

Kati, GREAT list. I actually have most of those on my playlists already :-) We have very similar taste LOL. I do adore Keeper of the Stars. I still get all sentimental whenever I hear it. And Truly Madly Deeply ends up on almost every one of my book playlists – what a fab beat!

Have fun with your romantic song mix LOL
